Tim Chaisson Receives Multiple Nominations For The 2012 Music PEI Awards

We are pleased to announce that Tim Chaisson received nominations in the categories of Entertainer of the Year, SpinCount Touring Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for "Slippin' Away" (directed by JP Poliquin) for the 2012 Music PEI Awards.

The awards will be handed out next month during Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week 2012, which runs from January 13-21, 2012 and culminates with the 2012 Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Ocean 100 and K-Rock 105.5.

Tim was fortunate to also be included in a new award in 2012, Touring Artist of the Year presented by SpinCount. This award recognizes achievement in regional, national and international touring by an Island artist or group.

Based in Nova Scotia, SpinCount is a music promotions company, providing publicity, radio tours, and radio tracking in order to raise artist's profile, sales, and attendance at shows. The winner of the Touring Artist of the Year will receive a free, national radio campaign at a value of $2400 dollars.

Bumstead Recording Artists From Charlottetown, Two Hours Traffic, Selected From Over 600 Acts By The Planetary Group's partners, Sonicbids and Only Much Louder (India) For An All Expense Paid Tour Of India, With Shows In Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore.

After nine years of successful shows and tours in China and Scandinavia, The Planetary Group accepted submissions for an unprecedented tour of India and received over six hundred application via Sonicbids. Previous artists to go on tour with Planetary include Hurricane Bells, Olafur Arnalds, Malajube, Superhoney, and more.

After a very successful second tour through Australia in November and December with the Jezabels that sold out all thirteen shows, CBC Song Quest Artists and Polaris nominees Two Hours Traffic have been performing closer to home on the Canadian east coast and writing new material for their next album. They won't be home for long though as they prepare to head to India in March.

New Trews Album Announced for April 12th

Canadian Rock quartet The Trews today announce the April 12 release of their fourth studio album, Hope & Ruin. The eponymously-titled first single is at radio now and will be available at all online retailers February 15. Sean Dalton, Jack Syperek, and brothers Colin and John-Angus MacDonald have been true to their shared vision since declaring themselves "Not Ready To Go" in 2003 and theyâ€™re only more game for action today.

Writing for Hope & Ruin began in late 2009, between touring legs in support of their live DVD/CD Acoustic: Friends & Total Strangers. By late spring of 2010, they were ready to demo a stable of new songs that marked a hybrid of their renowned rock sound but also showcased their vocal and playing range showcased through acoustic touring. The Tragically Hipâ€™s Gord Sinclair suggested using their Bathouse studios and The Trews set up camp to test the material against the mixing board. "It was like anything was up for grabs," reflects John-Angus MacDonlad. "We went there to try and figure out what kind of record was in us." The results exceeded expectations.

A sense of urgency and purpose descended and, beyond demoing, recording in earnest began. Unexpectedly, Sinclair and John-Angus MacDonald found themselves co-chairs of production. Out of this emerges Hope & Ruin, an album which paints a layered picture of a band not definable by the confinements of genre. While The Trews would be remiss not to deliver a fair share of fist-shaking rockers, they are also a rarity in rock acts for soaring vocal harmonies and a lyrical palette that flows from poignancy to playfulness to profundity without contradiction. The album reflects the bandâ€™s most collaborative, exploratory, and intuitive effort since they began. Asserts Colin MacDonald, "We went into this album without a rigid game plan, not knowing what to expect. We were reaffirmed and reenergized to learn we still burn to be the best band we can be."

The Trews are about to embark on a month-long second tour of Australia before returning home for the release of Hope & Ruin. Canadian tour dates to be announced shortly.

The Trews have recorded a song reflecting their patriot goodwill in the form of "Highway of Heroes", which musically captures the poignancy of the return of fallen members of Canada's armed forces serving in Afghanistan. The single will be serviced to radio May 14 and will be available for purchase exclusively through iTunes May 18. Net proceeds from sales will benefit the Canadian Hero Fund (herofund.ca), an organization that assists the families of Canadian military personnel through academic scholarships.

The song was co-written and co-produced by The Trews and Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) and was inspired by the 2006 death of Captain Nichola Goddard from The Trews' hometown of Antigonish, NS, who returned from duty along Canada's Highway of Heroes, the section of the MacDonald-Cartier freeway named to honour those who have sacrificed all in service of country.

"This past fall, Colin and I were reminded of Nichola's story via our mother, who had taught her at school," explains guitarist/vocalist John-Angus MacDonald of the inspiration behind the single. "While writing the song we decided to zoom out from the specific details of Nichola's story and make it more general, dedicating it to all soldiers past, present and future who are carried home on the Highway of Heroes. Afterward, we further felt compelled to do something with it that might benefit those who serve and those they leave behind. The Canadian Hero Fund was the most natural place to direct the proceeds."
